Who are we?
UH Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists is the student chapter of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists (TSHP), and the Gulf Coast Society of Health System Pharmacists (GCSHP). Our local chapter is nationally recognized by ASHP due to all our wonderful events and members! Our organization represents areas outside the traditional (retail) pharmacy environment. These areas include but are not limited to: clinical pharmacy, inpatient and outpatient clinics, hospital pharmacy administration, home infusion, academia, managed care, long-term care facilities, health maintenance organizations, etc.
As an active UHCOP student organization, SSHP has a lot to offer! Our organizational activities include: bimonthly meetings, community service projects, clinical skills competition, monthly journal club meetings at TMC, networking events with residency directors, job shadowing, mentorship programs, etc. We are also very involved in community service events including those that are pharmacy related. Service events include: HOMES clinic opportunities, brown-bag medication events, medication safety, antibiotic awareness, and several others.

Our organization has a lot to offer from amazing networking opportunities and great speakers to numerous leadership opportunities and service events. Because our college is located the the world-renown Texas Medical Center, our members are at a great advantage because they are able to hear from clinicians who are ranked top in their fields! With every meeting, we bring in a new pharmacy practitioner that has a different clinical specialty. Members are able to hear what it is like to do a residency and what it is like to practice in their particular specialty. Specialities displayed include: infectious diseases, internal medicine, psychiatry, solid organ transplant, pediatrics, cardiology, etc. Our meeting offer a great way to learn about areas of pharmacy that you may not learn about in school!
We also hold tons of networking events including: the Residency Mentoring Social, Residency Workshop, GCSHP Social, etc. We think it is extremely important for our members to spend time with residents and directors so that by the time they are ready to graduate they have a list of contacts! SSHP also offers numerous leadership opportunities to all class years. We have over 20 officer positions - six of which can be filled by P1s! SSHP also works to promote leadership beyond our college - we will keep you informed on positions at the state and national level! Don't miss out on all of the great things SSHP offers!
