Residency Workshop

Hear firsthand from current PGY-1/PGY-2 residents and residency program directors about how to prepare for applications and find your "match", what a day in the life of a pharmacy resident is like, and what makes a competitive residency candidate. Students may participate in a Q&A session with the speakers at the end and a catered sit-down dinner is provided.

Residency Showcase

The University of Houston Residency Showcase is an opportunity to meet residency program directors and current pharmacy residents from all across Texas and learn about what their institutions have to offer. The event is open to all Pharm.D. students in the area and is a prime way to practice networking before the ASHP Midyear Residency Showcase!

Residency Mentoring Social

One of our biggest events of the year, the Residency Mentoring Social is a round-robin style networking event. The night starts off with a lovely catered meal followed by a keynote speech, and then the social hour begins! Students rotate between tables of multiple Houston-area residency programs to socialize with their current residents, directors, coordinators, and clinical pharmacists.

Workshops and Informationals

In addition to the Residency Preparation Series, we have smaller-scale events throughout the year to help pave the pathway to your future career. Shadowing opportunities, networking workshops, residency bootcamps, Midyear informational sessions - we've got you covered.

Mentorship Opportunities

As a member of SSHP, you automatically gain membership into our regional (GCSHP) and state (TSHP) chapters! These affiliations are the gateway to finding a pharmacy mentor - whether through a connection you make on your own at our joint events or a match through the structured TSHP mentorship program.

Clinical Skills Competition

Refine your clinical knowledge and get a glimpse of the type of patients you'll treat in practice as a pharmacist. Students work up a patient case and present their care plan to a panel of judges. The winners receive a cash prize, free registration to the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, and represent UH in the national clinical skills competition!​

Monthly Chapter Meetings

We love to cater to our members! At our monthly meetings, we provide updates on what's happening in our chapter and invite speakers from different areas of health-system pharmacy - based on what YOU want to hear! Having a plate of free food in front of you is an added bonus.

Community Outreach

Pharmacy is all about using our knowledge to give back to the community. Our Medication Safety and Antibiotic Awareness chairs aim to educate the public about widespread issues related to their initiatives. Additionally, we participate in health fairs and brown bag medication reviews.
